Christmas fayre fun: Blogmas day 17

Hi guys!

My oldest nephew Noah now goes to pre school (😒 He’d just turned 1 when I started this blog!!) And they had a little Christmas fayre, to raise money for the pre school, at the weekend. I popped along with my sister, bro in law and nephews to take a look.

It was only a small fayre but they had some super cute and really lovely little activities for the children (& adults!!) to enjoy.

Of course they had the standard raffle, tombola and cake stall, because is it even a fayre without those!!

They also had a ‘Snowman soup station β˜ƒ

I love this idea! You have a little cellophane cone and put two scoops of hot chocoate in your cone and top it with a scoop of mini marshmallows, tie it up and you’ve got your own cute hot choclate cone, or snowman soup should I say!

Noah loved scooping in the ingredients.

Noah, Me and Sarah made one each (& I made one for my hubby Tim) to go into our Christmas eve boxes.

These would make a lovely Christmas gift idea for friends or from the kiddies as it’s a bit of fun but super easy.

Me & Noah had some turns on the tombola and won some hand cream haha.

Noahy also made himself some reindeer food ready for the reindeers on Christmas eve.

Casey has a little snowman painted onto his arm to get into the festive spirit. β˜ƒ

When we got home Noah and Casey’s letters from Santa, that I’d arranged with the big guy myself (it’s not what you know, it’s who you know) had arrived.

Noah was really pleased with his letter, stickers and official nice list certificate.

‘Thats exciting isn’t it!!’

It seems only yesterday he was having his ‘first’ steps etc and now it’s pre school ‘firsts’ and such. Time really flies, but I am loving how excited and how much Noah understands Christmas this year! It’s going to be so much fun πŸ˜€

Until next time,

Afternoon tea: Aqua SpringsΒ

So on Sunday we treated mum to a spa day and afternoon tea for her birthday! Her birthday was back in September but we thought half term was the perfect time to indulge. We went to Aqua Springs Spa in Colchester which is brilliant and a lot more reasonably priced than most spas, plus you can spend as long there as you like!

If you’ve been around here before you’ll have noticed that I have reviewed a few afternoon teas (I love cake, ok!?) I mean are you even human if you don’t.

Here are the links to those if you want to check them out too…

Afternoon tea: Suffolk Food Hall

Afternoon tea: The Salthouse Harbour Hotel

Afternoon tea: Patisserie Valerie

So let’s get into why we’re really here, the food. I just love the mixture of things that afternoon tea brings together and it was perfect as a little treat alongside the relaxing spa. So let’s take a look.

We had a stand between two people and each stand had three tiers:

Tier one (bottom) was the savoury, a selection of sandwiches

  • Egg
  • Ham
  • Cucumber
  • Cheese
  • Tuna

The sandwiches were lovely, delicate finger sandwiches. The only thing I would say was that this tier could have done with something else savoury such as a little savoury tart or a sausage roll as there was alot more on both of the sweet layers.

Tier two (middle) was the scones with cream and strawberry jam. Each person got two full sized scones which was awesome. There was a really good amount of jam and cream too, you each got an individual mini jar of strawberry jam and a mini pot of cream between two. There was also some fresh strawberries on this tier which was nice.

Tier three (top) was the cake tier.

  • Mini pieces of lemon drizzle cake
  • Mini macaroons (Pistachio, lemon, vanilla, coffee, strawberry & chocolate)

You got three pieces of lemon drizzle each (nice and moist!) And three mini macaroons too, the variety of flavours was amazing and the meringues were chewy and crisps.

Also served with the afternoon tea was a cup of either tea or coffee. You only got one hot drink with the afternoon tea which wasn’t quite enough, we weren’t sure if you could ask for a refill or not.

Of all the afternoon teas this one was the cheapest at Β£9 per person. Although I have said that there are several things that could have been added to this (because nothings perfect) for Β£9 it was absolutely brilliant.

Until next time,

Fun at the 02!Β

So, at the weekend, (Sat 1st July) yes the 1st of July, the first day of the SEVENTH MONTH of the year! Seriously 2017, slooooww dowwn. Basically we went to the 02 for  the Star Wars: identities exhibition as my husband Tim loves Star wars and its his birthday next week.

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. As someone who is only now watching the Star Wars films properly I found it really interesting and a fun experience.

There were over 100 pieces that were used in the actual Star Wars films, costumes, droids, models, to look at as well as an accompanying audio guide.

You also got given a wristband at the start and you build your own Star Wars character and shape their identity using it. You make choices about their species, home planet, job, personality etc and this creates your character for you.

Here is Tim’s:

Here is mine:

This was so much fun and I remembered alot more about the film’s than I though I would.

Tim had a great time which is the most important thing β™‘

After we had been to the exhibit we headed to get some food (also in the 02) there is such a good selection of restaurants in there to choose from and because we had been to the exhibit we got 25% off our food bill, winner!

We went to Zizzis and had a delicious Italian feast.

For starters Tim had this A-maz-ING bruschetta with creamy mozzarella, tomatoes & basil pesto πŸ‘Œ

I had one of my favourite starters, calamari (V.fitting after my character choice haha)

Tim had a classic Bolognese for his main, which was so rich and delicious. (Yup, I stole a sneaky taste, I’m not the only one who does that am I? I mean what’s mine is yours right! πŸ˜‚)

I had a delicious mushroom tortelloni dish in a creamy sauce.

We shared their new tomato, basil & mozzerella bread πŸ‘Œ

We love having days out for a birthday, I love receiving gifts people have chosen for me but there’s something lovely about having experiences and making memories too.

Definatly worth a look for all you Star Wars fans πŸ‘

Until next time,
