A trip to Ipswich Museum.

On Tuesday me and my sister took Noah to Ipswich museum. He’s never been before so we thought it would be nice to take him along, and it’s free!

He liked LOVED it! He spent ages walking around going ‘OH WOW, OH WOW,  OH WOW.’ There was so much for him to see.

We only had a little while to look round before the museum closed so it would be lovely to take him back again.

Primark beauty: Eyebrows

So, me and my sister have decided to do a series of blogs all about Primarks beauty products. Check out her first post for the series here.

They have a great and ever expanding range of beauty products ranging from bath products, face & moisturisers, make up, nails and more. In this blog I will be talking about their eyebrow products.

image

image

This brow pencil is great to start your look, it works really well to get the basic outline and shape that you want. It’s double ended with a brush and this is great for smoothing over the brow to perfect the shape.

image

image

This brow pallette is great for prepping the brow and filling it in. It comes with a brow wax to bring the brow together and then two brow powders of varying shades to colour the brow.

image

This little ‘Emergency’ brow kit is really great to pop in your handbag and comes with all the essentials for any brow based emergencies, but aside from that these are also great to use alongside the other products to create a great brow look.

The kit includes tweezers, a brow gel, a brow pencil and a brush.

I use the brow pencil to add defention and colour on top of the powder in any areas of the brow that might need it.

Here are some pictures of my brow look today using all of these products together.

I used these products to create an everyday brow look but they also lend themselves for more dramatic looks too.

I hope you’ve found this little insight helpful.

Be sure to watch out for more of our blogs, about all things Primark beauty in this mini series.

DIY Easter gifts

First and foremost…

image

I was inspired to make some yummy Easter treats when I read Zoellas blog.
https://www.zoella.co.uk/2016/03/6-quick-easy-easter-treats.html

And then I thought a fun idea for a blog post would be home made Easter gifts! So here are a few ideas of Easter alternatives…

1. Chocolate Easter nests.

image

These are a classic Easter treat and are great to make as a gift, who doesn’t love a chocolate nest?!?

These are also really easy to make and you can get the kids involved too.

I used Cadbury chocolate for mine, my favourite, and cornflakes. I topped mine with mini marshmallows as I didn’t have any eggs but mini eggs would be perfect to finish these off.

Ingredients

225g/8oz Cadbury chocolate, broken into pieces.
75g/3oz cornflakes
36 mini chocolate eggs

Method

1. Line a 12 hole baking tin with paper cases.

2. Melt the chocolate in a bowl set over a pan of gently simmering water, (do not let the base of the bowl touch the water). Stir the mixture until smooth.

3. Remove the bowl from the heat and gently stir in the cornflakes until all of the cereal is coated in the chocolate.

4. Divide the mixture between the paper cases and press 3 chocolate eggs into the centre of each nest.

5. Chill in the fridge for 1 hour, or until completely set.

Easy peasy!

2. Homemade Hot cross buns

image

Such a yummy treat for Easter, toasted with lashings of creamy butter! So why not make some to share with friends and family?

I’ve popped a link below to Mary Berrys hot cross bun recipe.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/mary_berrys_hot_cross_65003

These take a little longer to prepare but are worth the wait. They are also a great alternative if you know anyone who isn’t a chocolate fan (I know, incomprehensible).

3. Cadbury Creme egg brownies.
image

Don’t they look delicious?!
These are a yummy treat that everyone will love and would make a lovely alternative to Creme eggs on their own.
Below I have included a link to a recipe for these tempting treats.

http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/user/3204381/recipe/delicious-creme-egg-brownie

4. Easter Oreo bark.
image

This is such a simple but effect idea that I discovered on Pinterest.

Ingredients:

10 oz white chocolate chips
10 oz dark chocolate chips
4-5 oreos, cushed
8-9 Cadbury Mini Eggs, chopped

Instructions:

1. Line an 8×8 pan with parchment paper or aluminum foil, set aside.

2. Melt dark chocolate in microwave until smooth and pour into prepared pan.

3. Sprinkle some oreos on top, press down so they stay put. Place pan into freezer for about 10 minutes.

4. Melt white chocolate and spread it over top of the dark evenly. Work very fast because the white chocolate will start to harden from the bottom layer being so cold!

5. Quickly sprinkle the chopped Cadbury eggs and remaining crushed oreos on top and press down so they stay put.

6. Place in freezer for another 10 minutes or until the chocolate is completely hardened.

7. Break up bark with hands or cut with a warm knife to make clean cuts. (Heat knife under hot water then wipe off and cut while it’s still hot – repeat after each cut.)

This bark will keep for up to 7 days in an airtight container, if it lasts that long!

and finally…

5. Rice crispy Marsmallow eggs.
image

These are super easy and great to make with kids.

Below is a link to the recipe!

These can be decorate however you like and are yummy once they’ve cooled.

My March make haul ♢

Recently I’ve been buying a few more make up bits to enhance my small collection and I thought I would share with you what I got.

  • Eyebrows

Now recently I blogged about buying my first eyebrow kit, by Barry M and since then I’ve really started to enjoy doing them each day. I think I’m becoming a bit obsessed! I picked up three lovely sets from Primark to try out.

The kit in the top left is a palette kit which consists of two brow powders and a brow wax.  This is similar to the Barry M kit I mentioned but I like to try different things and have a few options.

The kit in the top right is an emergency brow kit. This comes with a brow crayon, brow gel, tweezers and a brow brush. This will be great to pop into my handbag!

I also brought a brow pencil, the pencil is on one end and it has a brush on the other. I can’t wait to try these out.

  • Lips

I love pinky tones when it comes to lipstick so I have purchased a few more to add to my collection.

This is a lovely lipstick from Primark, it’s called Romance and it’s a moisture rich lipstick. The colour is lovely and it stayed on really well.

I don’t have a lip liner so I brought Rimmel Londons EXAGGERATE full colour lip liner. I brought this in shade 101 ‘You’re all mine’.

One of my favourite purchase is my Matte me ultra smooth matte lip cream by Sleek make up. I got shade 435 ‘Petal’. This is a super cute pink shade and glides on so nicely. It dries matte and adds a nice pop to your make up look.

I thought I would try out a couple of Maybelline New Yorks lip glosses. The first one I picked up is a lovely dusky pink tone shade 130 ‘Pinking of you’ This is the one on the left. The one on the right is shade 120 ‘In the pink’ this one is my favourite of the two.

These are really cool as most lip glosses don’t last very long but these are double ended with a balm that keeps the colour but seals it onto your lips. They last ages! I wore one yesterday and it was still on in the afternoon after drinking and having lunch.

This isn’t really make up but I  also picked this up at primark and it smells divine. It’s a refreshing body mist and is raspberry & Blackberry scented. So fresh and makes you smell great.
I hope you enjoyed having a look at my new make up bits.

Until next time,

Roseanne 🙂

My hometown.

I’m proud to be Suffolk born and bred and around the area that I live in there are some great photo opportunities.

The Waterfront in Ipswich is especially picturesque at times and I love taking photos on my way to and from work as well as other times, so I thought I would share some of my snaps with you in my blog.

Some photos have filters and some are natural. I usually Instagram my photos you see.

A day trip to Norfolk!

Yesterday, me, Tim, my sister Sarah, her husband Dan and their little boy Noah took a trip to Norfolk to visit our Auntie Frances.

image

image

We always try and go to stay for a long weekend in the summer time but thought we would make use of the weekend and visit for the day.

image

We arrived just in time for lunch and boy it smelt delicious! We had a roast shoulder of lamb with all the trimmings. So tasty!

image

image

My Auntie also made a yummy butternut squash and sweet potato bake with cheese and other bits in it.
I’ve popped a link to a similar side dish in the blog so you can try this tasty combination!

http://diethood.com/cheesy-baked-butternut-squash-thanksgiving-side-dish-recipes/

A shoulder of lamb, a change of tablecloth and lots of laughs later and we were stuffed and ready to chilax!

Noah had a little play…

image

image

We were well and truly spoilt with the food that was prepared for us and we had this delicious concoction for dinner…

image

Shortcrust pastry topped with mozzarella, tomatoes, olives, peppers, basil and grated cheese, so yummy.

image

We had this with salad and other yummy bits.

After dinner we sat down for a game of 8 out of 10 cats. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the TV quiz show of the same name, hosted by Jimmy Carr, it’s a facts and opinion polls based quiz.

image

image

It was lots of fun and we were playing for ages before we realised it was gone 10 o clock and we needed to start heading home! As they say, time flies when your having fun.

It was a lovely day as usual and lovely to see Auntie Frances! I can’t wait for our next visit/stay for more fun and laughs.

Wedding update no 8: A make up trial.

88 days to go!

Whilst I am writing this there are exactly 88 days to go until the wedding, which is very scary!

Last Tuesday evening the lovely Demi came round for my next make up trial. Check out Demi’s blog here:  http://www.demidoll.co.uk She’s super talented and so knowledgable about all things make up and beauty.

We had already tried out a few make up ideas at our last trial and since then I have invested in a few make up bits especially for the wedding. Take a look at my last wedding blog post to see what I got:  https://roseannegreen.wordpress.com/2016/02/22/wedding-update-no-7/

We started off by just having a chat about some ideas and then got stuck in!

Here are some pictures of my make up:

The foundation I’m wearing is by YSL and it’s their Touché Eclait foundation. On my cheeks I have YSLs kiss and blush in shade number 3. It’s a lovely pinky tone and looks great on my cheeks and my lips.

Eyeshadow!

(Again, apologies for the close ups!)

We played around with a few ideas for my eyeshadow and Demi tried a mix of lots of different colours and eyeshadow tones to create this look. One of the main pieces used was my Revolution eyeshadow pallet which are a bargin at £4, have a great selection of colours and are really pigmented.

I love the colours used here and the white in the corners looks lovely and teamed with a brown eyeliner they really bring my eyes to life.

As well as purchasing some new make up I got myself this cute make up bag from Primark for £4. I love the pinky colour and tassle ♡

image

Now seems as good a time as any to really start taking care of my skin and my sister Sarah bought me some products from superdrugs Vitamin E range to try out.

image

I’ve always used moisturiser but now I cleanse and tone beforehand to make my skin extra soft and looked after.

I use the dual phase cleansing oil first and apply this all over my face with a cotton pad. I then spray on the refreshing toning mist and pat it into the skin. Lastly I apply my Olay moisturiser.

In this set I also have a gentle oatmeal exfoliator and leave on moisture mask. I use the exfoliator once or twice a week and the moisture mask when I want a little extra pampering for my skin.

I have bought a few new make up items recently for my eyebrows, which Im slowly realising can become a bit of an obsession once you start shaping them etc and I really like pinky tones for my lips and have found a couple that I am going to try out.

I might do a post about a few of the new items I’ve got once they’ve arrived!

That’s all for now…

Until next time

Homemade Afternoon Tea

So every Mother’s Day for the last few years we have celebrated by making mum homemade afternoon tea. I make the cakes, Sarah makes the sandwiches and Charlotte gets the scones, cream and Jam.

I thought I would do a blog post about the yummy cakes that I made and show you how they turned out.

Previous years ive made a large lemon drizzle cake, different flavoured cupcakes, a victoria sponge cake and more, this year I had a go at making a lemon drizzle tray bake, a rocky road tray bake and macaroons.

1. Lemon Drizzle Tray bake.

This was quite an easy cake mix to make as you basically mix two parts up and then mix it all together. It does include alot of squeezing lemons but the smell is divine.

Here’s a link to the recipe on the BBC Good food website.

http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1892633/lemon-drizzle-traybake

image

image

2. Rocky Road Tray bake.

This is super yummy and only has a few steps to it.  I didn’t really follow a recipe exactly for this traybake (just using it to get quantities of butter and golden syrup) but I have included a link to a recipe below if you did want one to follow.

Here’s what I did:

1. Melted the butter and chocolate together in the microwave gradually. Make sure to check it at regular intervals and stir to avoid burning the chocolate. I used 2 bars of dark chocolate to 1 bar of milk chocolate.

2. Crush up the biscuits in a resealable bag using a rolling pin. Break into dust and large chunks for texture.

3. Pour the chocolate and biscuits into your traybake tin, mix together and then incorporate the raisins and mini marshmallows.

4. Make sure it’s all evenly mixed and coated in the chocolate and then pop it in the fridge to set.

Warning: This is very chocolaty, for those who like a milder chocolate taste use more milk chocolate.

image

3. Macaroons.

I wanted to have a practise of these to see if they are tricky, they are a little fiddly but not as bad as you’d think.

image

image
image
image

Here’s the recipe I followed:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/pink_macaroons_33096

I think they came out ok for a first attempt and my taste tester Tim enjoyed them…

image

What I learnt for next time:

○ Go by the quantities that the recipe instructs for the butter cream, don’t just ‘wing it’ as mine didn’t come out the desired consistency.

○ Try and get food colouring from a proper professional cake shop, I used some gel food colouring from the COOP and it didn’t work that well for this recipe.

○ Draw out circles on to the baking parchment that are the desired size of the macaroons to ensure that they are the size you want and as even as possible.

We also had scones (cheese & fruit) with cream and Jam, egg, ham and salmon & cream cheese finger sandwiches, sausage rolls and lots of tea!

Here are some pictures from our yummy Homemade Mother’s day afternoon tea!

World Book Day 2016

Thursday 3rd March 2016.

Since its World book day today and we are a quarter of the way through the year I thought I would update you on how I’m getting on with my reading challenge.

I have read four books so far! Here are the books I’ve read:

1. A book I’ve previously read.

image

Harry Potter and the Philopshers Stone by J K Rowling.

When a letter arrives for unhappy but ordinary Harry Potter, a decade-old secret is revealed to him that apparently he’s the last to know. His parents were wizards, killed by a Dark Lord’s curse when Harry was just a baby, and which he somehow survived. Leaving his unsympathetic aunt and uncle for Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Harry stumbles upon a sinister mystery when he finds a three-headed dog guarding a room on the third floor. Then he hears of a missing stone with astonishing powers, which could be valuable, dangerous – or both. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

2. A book you’ve been meaning to read.

image

The Lake house by Helen Phifer.

And now Martha has sworn to protect anyone else from the evils lurking just below her floorboards. But whatever it is, has woken up – and is hungry again…

When she calls the police for help, Annie Graham is the first to respond. Now Annie Ashworth, she is happily married to fellow police officer Will, with a gorgeous home and a job she loves. But then she hears the news – serial killer Henry Smith has escaped from his mental hospital and is on the run. 3. A book published this year.
image

The girls in the woods by Helen Phifer.

In an old album there is a beautiful Victorian photo that captures three young sisters, staring silently at one another. Only the trained eye can see the truth hiding in plain view. One of the sisters is already dead.

Annie Ashworth is currently off duty. With her baby bump growing fast, she is under strict instructions to stay away from police work and look after herself, especially as she has a history of leading danger right to her door. So when her police officer husband, Will, is called to the discovery of a skeleton buried out in the local woods, Annie tries to keep out of the investigation. But as another body is discovered and her own niece suddenly goes missing, staying away just isn’t an option.

4. A book you’ve previously abandoned.

image

Allegiant by Veronica Roth.

The faction – based society that Tris Prior once believed in is shattered – fractured by violence and power struggles and scarred by loss and betrayal. So when offered a chance to explore the world past the limits she’s known, Tris is ready. Prehaps beyond the fence she and Tobias will find a simple new life together, free from complicated lies, tangled loyalties and painful memories.

But Tris’s new reality is even more alarming than the one she left behind. Old discoveries are quickly rendered meaningless. Explosive new truths change the hearts of those she loves.
And once again Tris must battle to comprehend the complexities of human nature – and of herself – while facing impossible choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice and love.
