What have you been up to so far, this summer? âď¸
I love documenting what we get up to in the Summer holidays.
Though thanks to Covid we didnt actually have a Summer ‘holiday’, I also didn’t have to work this Summer, so I had all six weeks to enjoy, have fun and relax ready for Sept!
So, without further ado, let’s have a look at what we got up to…
For my husband Tim’s 28th birthday I bought us a trip to Rome. As you may know from previous blogs, Italy is our favourite country and Tim’s favourite Italian city that we’ve visited is Rome, it’s been 7 years since our first visit.
Read on to see what we got up to!
Day One
It was a early start for us to begin our Rome adventure, from Gatwick!
This meant we had a whole day to start exploring.
But, first lunch! And an ice cream stop at the highest rated ice cream place in Rome, it didn’t disappoint!
We stumbled upon the National Museum of Rome and this was a great find. The architecture was amazing and we had a audio guide which was really interesting.
After all our exploring and walking around we had a chilled evening back at our room. We grabbed some take away pizza slices and a couple of ice cold cans of coke zero and enjoyed a them in our cosy room.
Day Two
Today we headed out early to have a look at the Colosseum. We went inside it on our last trip to Rome so this time we just went to have a look at it again from the outside, as well as the area around it.
We enjoyed a nice lunch and some ice cream before heading back for a siesta and our evening activity.
That evening we enjoyed our Italian cooking class, the first of our three planned activities for the trip.
It was originally going to be a pizza class (my husband is obsessed with pizza and this trip was planned by me for his birthday) but they changed the menu to pasta, as a summer alternative. Even so we had a great time!
We made pasta, a similar one to tagliatelle, Gnocci and then for dessert we made an amazing summer berries and white chocolate tiramisu. It was so good and it was so fun to cook proper pasta. You can really tell the difference.
Day Three
I think this was my favourite day of the holiday.
We had a nice early start to have a look round Palentine hill and the Roman Forum. We missed out on seeing these last time as we didn’t get there early enough and it is horrendous in the heat!
So, we made our way there nice and early and spent the morning having a look at the amazing Roman Ruins.
For lunch we headed over to the highest rated pizza place in Rome and it was delicious. This was my favourite meal and the man who owned the shop was so helpful and friendly. It’s a small little shop but so worth it.
In the evening we headed to Piazza Campo de’ Fiori to have our second planned activity, a ‘By night walking tour of Rome’ Our guide was absolutely brilliant, born and raised in Rome so very knowledgable.
We saw so many different sights that we hadn’t seen before, such as the Pantheon and my favourite, the Trevi fountain (Which is SO beautiful) and much bigger than I expected. I’m so glad we got to see it this time.
Day Four
On day four our planned activity was an evening walking food tour, unfortunately it was cancelled so we had another think about what to do.
In the end we booked a morning trip, including a guided tour of the Vatican city. The tour included access to the Vatican museum, the Cistine Chapel & St Peter’s Basillca.
These places were all amazing and the artwork, tapestrys and architecture were amazing, as well as the history.
After a delicious lunch of Caprese salad, Pizza and the most amazing tiramisu we headed home for another afternoon siesta!
In the evening we took a stroll down to the Colosseum, after dinner, to have a look at it all lit up at night. It looked beautiful!
Day Five
On our final day we didnt fly out until the evening so, we wanted to make the most of our last day.
At breakfast we had a look on Viator to see what we could do.
As we didn’t make pizza at the previous cooking class we booked onto a pizza class for midday.
We stumbled across the Spanish Steps whilst we were looking for the cooking class location which was cool! Another landmark to tick off.
The cooking class was brilliant, with a lovely group of Americans & a Canadian lady. I really enjoyed making an authentic pizza in Rome and I loved seeing Tim make his favourite cuisine too.
They were really tasty!! A great lunch for our last day.
One of the other members of the cooking class mentioned a 5D experience that they were visiting later that day and as we had no other plans we thought we would check it out too!
We went for the full package 5D experience watching the history of Rome, the evolution of life and we looked around Roman landmarks with a VR headset on.
Once we had done all this it was a good time to slowly amble back to Termini to grab our bags and get the coach to the airport.
A great end to the holiday.
We had a brilliant time in Rome and I would 100% recommend it to anyone thinking of visiting Italy, especially if you are a first timer as there is so much to see and do.
& of course the food is amazing.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this little post about our trip!
I wonder what next years Holiblogs will be about!? Time to start thinking for 2020.
Here is the final instalment in my ‘Summer diaries’ blog series đ
Enjoy!
Monday 27th August 2018
As its a bank holiday me and Timmy went out to Woodbridge.
We went out for lunch and then had a lovely walk through the shops in town, sat in one of the parks to start planning our next holiday and walked back to the car, along the river.
It was a lovely chilled out bank holiday and it was lovely to spend sometime together.
Tuesday 28th August 2018
I spent my Tuesday in the library as it was my last day volunteering for the Summer Reading challenge.
I’ve really enjoyed helping out again, this was my 6th year.
I LOVE reading and I hope by volunteering I’ve helped some kiddies carry on their love of reading too.
Friday 31st August 2018
Today was an awesome day, it was mine and Evie-Mae’s Auntie & Niece day âĄ
We had lots of fun together.
Our first stop was the park to eat our lunch…
Our second stop was the library to have a look at some books. We had a lovely time exploring the library and we read a few books too.
In the night garden was her favourite.
Our third and final stop was soft play! She loved going in and out of the soft tunnels, sitting in the ball pit and going down the slide together.
I can’t wait for our next day out together !!
In the evening I went to Chiquitos for dinner with some of my lovely work friends.
It was great to have a catch up, accompanied by some yummy food.
Saturday 1st September 2018
Today I went into town for a spot of retail therapy. I love shopping and no matter what my husband says, it’s a legitimate hobby!! Haha.
Whilst I was in town I went to Debenhams to see my friend Demi. Demi works for Dior and she wanted me to try out some of Diors new Autumn collection.
If you want to see what I thought of all the beautiful products you can check out my blog post here .
Sunday 2nd September 2018
Today I went to my first football match of the new season. It was a very important one for my local team as we were playing our local East Anglian rivals.
The match wasn’t the best but it ended with a draw which isn’t a bad result.
After the footie me and all my friends from our group gathered at Sam & Livy’s to celebrate Livy’s birthday.
We had a lovely BBQ in the sun and it was great to chill out and catch up with each other.
In the evening the boys came over for a sleepover, which was awesome!
We didn’t do much as it was late by the time we got home from the BBQ but, there was just enough time for a treat!ice creams all round.
Tuesday 4th September 2018
Me and Noah went to the cinema together this morning. Our local cinema does ‘Movies for juniors’ showings in the mornings and this morning it was Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’.
We had a great time watching a Disney classic and enjoying some snacks.
As this was my last day off I spent the afternoon chillin’ out. The perfect end to the summer hols.
And thats it, the end of the Summer hols! I can’t believe they are over already,
They seem to get quicker and quicker every year.
I hope you enjoyed this little mini series, taking a look inside my Summer hols and what I got up to.
Apologies for the delay! But my ‘Holiblog’ series kind of took over!
But, the summer hols are only just over so I thought I would finish the series up and update you guys on how I spent the middle weeks of the holidays.
The reason I’ve lumped a few weeks together is because I’m not going to actually explain what I did in weeks Two and Three as that is when we were in Florida…Instead I will leave the links to my holiblogs…
Tonight (Thurs) I slept over at my twin sister Sarah’s house.
We had a treat dinner before heading to bed ready for the celebrations the next day.
Friday 24th August 2018 marks two years since my beautiful youngest nephew Casey James was born.
I am so happy I am waking up there and being able to experience his birthday with him first thing. We have a fun day planned!
Our first stop was the cinema to watch
‘Luis and the aliens’
It was brilliant and we had a great time, especially with some yummy snacks and drinks included.
The film was one of the best kids films I’ve seen in ages!
Next stop! McDonald’s for a birthday treat lunch.
Stop number three, Pennikkity Pots!
Here we did something a bit different but fun and creative. The boys both chose a ceramic and they painted it. Casey chose a fish whilst Noah painted a shark.
They loved it!
Nana & Grandads in the evening for more presents opening and cake!!
It was a jammed packed but fun day to celebrate Casey turning two!
Saturday 25th August 2018
Me & my friend from work met up this evening to have a meal together.
Nandos was delicious as usual and the halloumi starter proved as difficult to avoid as always.
It was great to catch up after my holiday and have a good old chat!
Sunday 26th August 2018
Casey Jame’s second birthday party.
It’s kind of a tradition to have a little party each year, with all the family! So of course this year was no exception.
At Sarah & Dans we had party food, present opening, fun, games and of course cake!
There was a definite dino theme amongst his presents and he loved his dinosaur Jurassic World birthday cake.
We rounded off the day with a delicious impromptu (always the best kind) Chinese takeaway.
That’s the penultimate week done, its the last week next week đą
I thought I would do a little series of blogs, throughout the Summer hols, all about what I get up to.
I asked over on my Twitter & Facebook page (@Roseannesblog) and it was a resounding yes, so here is Summer diaries instalment one.
The school I work at broke up on Friday so I’ll be starting it from then onwards.
Next week we are off on our holidays for 2 weeks so I will probably bring back my ‘Holiblog’ series from 2016, with the Florida edition, so that you can see what we get up to in Orlando.
Hopefully you guys will find this interesting & who knows it might even inspire you during the long summer break.
So let’s take a look at Week one!
Saturday 21st July 2018
Today I met up with my uni friends. We always try and have a couple of meet ups every now and then and we always meet in London.
We decided to do something a bit different this time and take the tube to the cinema at the 02.
But first, we met up in Westfield for a Nandos and a catch up!
We headed to the 02 to watch the 2pm showing of ‘Hotel Artemis’, I really enjoyed the film and the snacks!
I did a bit of shopping back at Westfield before I got my coach home.
Another fun day out together!
Sunday 22nd July 2018
Today my twin sister Sarah and my two nephew’s Noah & Casey came round for lunch!
We ended up spending the afternoon together, playing games, puzzles and we even went out to have a look at the boats and for a drink at a local cafe, in the sunshine âď¸
It’s the evening now and I’m staying over at my older sister Charlotte’s house with my niece Evie-Mae. We are off out together tomorrow so it made sense to stay over as she lives the other side of town to me.
Monday 23rd July 2018
Today we are off to a baby group (Me, my sister’s Sarah & Charlotte and my Niece Evie and Nephews Noah & Casey).
We had a lovely play in the sunshine, on the bikes, in the water & paint. The kiddies enjoyed a snack and we sung some songs together too, which was lovely.
I loved being able to go as I’m always at work when they usually go.
Off into town after the baby group and I bought a few holiday bits.
We just met our friend Demi for a coffee and a catch up in town and now I am heading to work.
Wednesday 25th July 2018
This morning I headed to the cinema with my two favourite little guys.
We went to watch Thomas & Friends: Big adventure! Armed with snacks and special cups we sat down and enjoyed the film.
The boys were so good and we all really enjoyed ourselves đ
This afternoon my mum, my friend Steph and her two little boys are round for a cuppa, cake & a catch up!
We always try and meet up a few times in the holidays which is great.
Friday 27th July 2018
I’m off out this evening for drinks with my friend Charlotte. We are both off on holiday soon so we thought it would be nice to get together beforehand.
Coast to Coast & Cosy Club were our destinations for drinks.
I love Cosy Clubs ‘Cherry Bakewell’ cocktail đ
That’s Week One, done! I hope you’ve all been able to enjoy the sunshine wherever you are.
