Some of my favourite nail varnishes

I thought I would do a post about some nail varnishes that I’ve used alot recently and really like.

I love lots of different colours and have been using these darker ones recently, they are by Barry M and are part of their Gelly Hi Shine Nail polish collection.
image

I also recently brought a lovely pink colour that is from the same collection. Of all the nail varnish colours I wear pink ones the most.

A make up look.

I thought I would post one of my favourite make up looks that I have done recently. So here it is,

image

As a base I used my BB cream from the Body shop in shade no 2. This gives a lovely even coverage and is nice and light.

I used a lovely pinky blusher on the apple of my cheeks. The blusher I used is just a drug store brand.

My kiss and blush in shade no 3, by YSL would also work well with this look as it is a pink tone.
image

On my lips I firstly applied the lip liner that I have previously discussed in my March Make up Haul blog post, check that out here

It is by Rimmel London and is their EXAGGERATE full colour lip liner in shade 101 ‘You’re all mine’.

I then used my Matte Me ultra smooth matte lip cream in shade 435 ‘petal’. I LOVE this pinky colour. It’s such a nice shade and it glides on so nicely for a great finish.

It dries matte which to begin with I wasn’t a fan of but, it works so well with this look and I love how this shade works as a matte. It gives a real popto the look.

To finish the look I used my Primark eyebrow products, you can find out about these in more detail by checking out my blog post all about them here
image

I really like this look as a simple, every day style as it is still really pretty.

Primark beauty: Eyeshadow

So for my latest blog post in mine and Sarahs Primark beauty blog series I thought I would look at their eyeshadow palettes and accessories.
I brought a couple of different ones, one has pinky, browny tones and the other has white, gray and blacks. I also picked up one of their eye shadow brushes to try out.

image

The brush was a great shape for sweeping across the eyelid but also for add detail and defention around the eye.

Palette no1: Neutral colours

image

image

These ones are great for a simple, every day look. I used the white colour as a base and then used the browny tones to add defention and shade around the eye and one of the pinky tones on top.

image
image

I also used the white in the inner corners of my eyes which adds a nice finish to the look.

Palette no 2: Smoky eyes
image

image

The white in the palette worked really well as a base and then I built up the colour using the grey and lighter black.

I used the dark black underneath the eye halfway and on the corner to make it a more dramatic look, this would look great teamed with eye liner and mascara. I swept the white underneath the other half of the eye and blended it with the black which I really like. This adds a pop to the look and defines the eye really well.

Wedding update no9

So here it is, wedding update number 9! Time is going so quickly. It is currently the Easter Holidays as I write this and the day the holidays end (April 11th) there will be exactly 2 months until the wedding.

RSVPs

image

We sent the invites out a little while ago now and are slowly but surely getting replies back from our guests. It’s so exciting I can’t wait to check the postbox every morning to see if there are anymore in there!

Seating plan

This leads me to the seating plan,  now that we are getting an idea of who is coming I had a go at arranging the seating plan to give myself a rough idea. We are having 12 tables so the main issue was evenly spreading guests (7/8 per table) between these tables and keeping certain people/families/friends together as much as possible.

I know this will probably change a few more times before the big day but I feel like I’ve got a little head start at least.

Penultimate dress fitting

So I had what was supposed to be my last dress fitting last Tuesday 29th March. Mum, Sarah, Noah, Roxy and Tim’s mum Joy came along. It was really lovely to try my dress on again and see how it looked now that it fits me!
I was really pleased with it and I got to choose my veil and tiara this time too. I didn’t go for anything too over the top and fussy as I didn’t want to detract from the intricate decoration on the dress.

There was a bit of a gape at the back of the dress and the hook and eye wasn’t staying shut so they have taken it back to tweek those bits and replace the hook and eye with poppers. The veil and tiara are safely stored at my sisters house and hopefully after my appointment at the end of April I can take the dress away and it can join them,  EEeeeek!!

 Decorations

Now recently I found a lovely idea to add a personalised touch to each table at the wedding, this idea of course came from Pinterest.

I cannot stress enough how important (&fun/inspiring/exciting) it is going on Pinterets when you are planning your wedding. A wedding planning must I’d say.

So, back to the idea. I am making some special boxes, one for each table at the wedding breakfast for guests to take a look inside. I won’t reveal too much about what is inside as it will spoil the surprise for anyone reading this who may be coming, but I just love the idea and it was super easy to do.

I popped into town this morning to grab the bits I would need and then made a start on them when I got home. I managed to make half which is great. Super easy, quick and so effect!

I love making things and am so pleased that I have been able to make so many elements of the wedding and decorations by hand! It makes it so much more personalised β™‘

I also found these lovely items to decorate the venue with.

image

First up I got these super cute bird candles. These were in the Primark in Cambridge for only Β£1 for a set of 2.

I got these mini milk bottles in Tiger also Β£1 each and these will be great with freshly cut flowers in them.

Bar & corkage costs

Me and Tim had a meeting with the guys who run the bar at Wantisden  Valley,  this was really useful as it was great to meet them as they will be there on the day, they were able to let us know how the service would run AND they explained the corkage cost to us which made us realised that we could save some money on service and glassware costs, winner!

Make up trial
I have another make up trial with Demi next week which I’m looking forward to. We are going to try out all the things we have decided on in the last few sessions to get an idea of how it will look on the day/how long it will take etc.

Right, I think that’s all for now!

Until next time,

Good Friday! Cambridge style.

image

Now this is a little late but I figured since its Friday I could rewind to a week ago. So last Friday was Good Friday and both me and Tim were off work so we decided to make the most of the day and take an impromptu trip to Cambridge.

We stayed there for the Easter weekend last year and it was lovely so we thought why not go again for the day?! Tims brother Simon lives there now so we also thought it would be a good opportunity to see him and where he lives.

We decided on the park and ride to get into Cambridge City centre in order to avoid Tim having the stress of driving in. We were so lucky with the weather, it was a beautifully sunny day and it just made Cambridge all the more lovelier to look around.

image

image

image

Once we’d met up with Simon and he had shown us around his house he took us into town, a route that followed the river which was so lovely in the sunshine.

image

image

image

We grabbed lunch from this lovely Sicillian place that Simon though me and Tim would enjoy, knowing how fond we are of all things Italian! It was delicious. It was called Aromi and the pizza was awesome.

image

Mine was topped with mozzarella,Β  ham, mushrooms and artichoke. So yummy I almost forgot to take a picture before I finished it all as you can see!

image

We saw some awesome and very grand buildings as we walked around…

image

image

Kings college, Cambridge.

image

image

I thought this one looked really Hogwartsy so I had to take a picture!

image

Simon showed us the huge tree him and some people from his work had climbed. Me and Tim gave it a go but didn’t get very far!

Once Simon had showed us where he worked he pointed us in the direction of some museums as he was meeting a friend.

We tried the Fitzwilliam museum first but this one was unfortunately closed so we tried the Scott polar research institute. This documented the various polar expeditions that have been undertaken, the history and culture of those that live in the different polar regions and there was also an exhibit all about the explorer Shackleton.

image

This intricately painted dome is one of two that is in the entrance to the institute. It illustrates the Arctic and the various explorers who have visited it.

image
image

image

If you havnt been Cambridge is definatly worth a visit, it’s such a lovely city.Β

Me and Tim had such a lovely day together, there’s no one I’d rather spend my bank holiday with β™‘

A trip to Ipswich Museum.

On Tuesday me and my sister took Noah to Ipswich museum. He’s never been before so we thought it would be nice to take him along, and it’s free!

image

image

image

image

image

He liked LOVED it! He spent ages walking around going ‘OH WOW, OH WOW,Β  OH WOW.’ There was so much for him to see.

We only had a little while to look round before the museum closed so it would be lovely to take him back again.

Primark beauty: Eyebrows

So, me and my sister have decided to do a series of blogs all about Primarks beauty products. Check out her first post for the series here.

They have a great and ever expanding range of beauty products ranging from bath products, face & moisturisers, make up, nails and more. In this blog I will be talking about their eyebrow products.

image

image

This brow pencil is great to start your look, it works really well to get the basic outline and shape that you want. It’s double ended with a brush and this is great for smoothing over the brow to perfect the shape.

image

image

This brow pallette is great for prepping the brow and filling it in. It comes with a brow wax to bring the brow together and then two brow powders of varying shades to colour the brow.

image

This little ‘Emergency’ brow kit is really great to pop in your handbag and comes with all the essentials for any brow based emergencies, but aside from that these are also great to use alongside the other products to create a great brow look.

The kit includes tweezers, a brow gel, a brow pencil and a brush.

I use the brow pencil to add defention and colour on top of the powder in any areas of the brow that might need it.

Here are some pictures of my brow look today using all of these products together.

After

I used these products to create an everyday brow look but they also lend themselves for more dramatic looks too.

I hope you’ve found this little insight helpful.

DIY Easter gifts

First and foremost…

image

I was inspired to make some yummy Easter treats when I read Zoellas blog.
https://www.zoella.co.uk/2016/03/6-quick-easy-easter-treats.html

And then I thought a fun idea for a blog post would be home made Easter gifts! So here are a few ideas of Easter alternatives…

1. Chocolate Easter nests.

image

These are a classic Easter treat and are great to make as a gift, who doesn’t love a chocolate nest?!?

These are also really easy to make and you can get the kids involved too.

I used Cadbury chocolate for mine, my favourite, and cornflakes. I topped mine with mini marshmallows as I didn’t have any eggs but mini eggs would be perfect to finish these off.

Ingredients

225g/8oz Cadbury chocolate, broken into pieces.
75g/3oz cornflakes
36 miniΒ chocolateΒ eggs

Method

1. Line a 12 hole baking tin with paper cases.

2. Melt the chocolate in a bowl set over a pan of gently simmering water, (do not let the base of the bowl touch the water). Stir the mixture until smooth.

3. Remove the bowl from the heat and gently stir in the cornflakes until all of the cereal is coated in the chocolate.

4. Divide the mixture between the paper cases and press 3 chocolate eggs into the centre of each nest.

5. Chill in the fridge for 1 hour, or until completely set.

Easy peasy!

2. Homemade Hot cross buns

image

Such a yummy treat for Easter, toasted with lashings of creamy butter! So why not make some to share with friends and family?

I’ve popped a link below to Mary Berrys hot cross bun recipe.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/mary_berrys_hot_cross_65003

These take a little longer to prepare but are worth the wait. They are also a great alternative if you know anyone who isn’t a chocolate fan (I know, incomprehensible).

3. Cadbury Creme egg brownies.
image

Don’t they look delicious?!
These are a yummy treat that everyone will love and would make a lovely alternative to Creme eggs on their own.
Below I have included a link to a recipe for these tempting treats.

4. Easter Oreo bark.
image

This is such a simple but effect idea that I discovered on Pinterest.

Ingredients:

10 oz white chocolate chips
10 oz dark chocolate chips
4-5 oreos, cushed
8-9 Cadbury Mini Eggs, chopped

Instructions:

1. Line an 8×8 pan with parchment paper or aluminum foil, set aside.

2. Melt dark chocolate in microwave until smooth and pour into prepared pan.

3. Sprinkle some oreos on top, press down so they stay put. Place pan into freezer for about 10 minutes.

4. Melt white chocolate and spread it over top of the dark evenly. Work very fast because the white chocolate will start to harden from the bottom layer being so cold!

5. Quickly sprinkle the chopped Cadbury eggs and remaining crushed oreos on top and press down so they stay put.

6. Place in freezer for another 10 minutes or until the chocolate is completely hardened.

7. Break up bark with hands or cut with a warm knife to make clean cuts. (Heat knife under hot water then wipe off and cut while it’s still hot – repeat after each cut.)

This bark will keep for up to 7 days in an airtight container, if it lasts that long!

and finally…

5. Rice crispy Marsmallow eggs.
image

These are super easy and great to make with kids.

Below is a link to the recipe!

These can be decorate however you like and are yummy once they’ve cooled.

My March make haul β™’

Recently I’ve been buying a few more make up bits to enhance my small collection and I thought I would share with you what I got.

  • Eyebrows

Now recently I blogged about buying my first eyebrow kit, by Barry M and since then I’ve really started to enjoy doing them each day. I think I’m becoming a bit obsessed! I picked up three lovely sets from Primark to try out.

The kit in the top left is a palette kit which consists of two brow powders and a brow wax.  This is similar to the Barry M kit I mentioned but I like to try different things and have a few options.

The kit in the top right is an emergency brow kit. This comes with a brow crayon, brow gel, tweezers and a brow brush. This will be great to pop into my handbag!

I also brought a brow pencil, the pencil is on one end and it has a brush on the other. I can’t wait to try these out.

  • Lips

I love pinky tones when it comes to lipstick so I have purchased a few more to add to my collection.

This is a lovely lipstick from Primark, it’s called Romance and it’s a moisture rich lipstick. The colour is lovely and it stayed on really well.

I don’t have a lip liner so I brought Rimmel Londons EXAGGERATE full colour lip liner. I brought this in shade 101 ‘You’re all mine’.

One of my favourite purchase is my Matte me ultra smooth matte lip cream by Sleek make up. I got shade 435 ‘Petal’. This is a super cute pink shade and glides on so nicely. It dries matte and adds a nice pop to your make up look.

I thought I would try out a couple of Maybelline New Yorks lip glosses. The first one I picked up is a lovely dusky pink tone shade 130 ‘Pinking of you’ This is the one on the left. The one on the right is shade 120 ‘In the pink’ this one is my favourite of the two.

These are really cool as most lip glosses don’t last very long but these are double ended with a balm that keeps the colour but seals it onto your lips. They last ages! I wore one yesterday and it was still on in the afternoon after drinking and having lunch.

This isn’t really make up but I  also picked this up at primark and it smells divine. It’s a refreshing body mist and is raspberry & Blackberry scented. So fresh and makes you smell great.
I hope you enjoyed having a look at my new make up bits.

Until next time,

My hometown.

I’m proud to be Suffolk born and bred and around the area that I live in there are some great photo opportunities.

The Waterfront in Ipswich is especially picturesque at times and I love taking photos on my way to and from work as well as other times, so I thought I would share some of my snaps with you in my blog.

Some photos have filters and some are natural. I usually Instagram my photos you see.
